Ismaning
Freising
Ismaning is located in the north
of Munich county on the right
bank of the Isar – between fields
and the Isar riverside. As the
former summer residence of the
Freising prince-bishops and
summer seat of the Dukes of
Leuchtenberg, Ismaning, with its
palace and palace park, has a
small but historically interesting
town centre. This is also the
cultural centre of the municipality.
The museums are all located in
the palace park, not far from the
palace. The Kallmann Museum,
the only art museum in Munich
county, was opened in 1992 in
the building that replaced the
former orangery in the palace
park. The Schloßmuseum is
located in a historic outbuilding,
the so-called Torfbahnhof. As of
spring 2010 it will find its final
location in the former gardener’s
house, likewise in the palace park.
Additionally the architecturally
exceptional palace pavilion, an art
gallery in the centre of the park,
offers an attractive ambience for
small exhibitions. In Ismaning
culture and nature are optimally
combined.
