The former Cistercian monastery
Fürstenfeld, founded in the
thirteenth century, is famous
above all for its beautiful
monastery church, which is
one of the most magnificent
Baroque buildings in Bavaria.
It was built from 1701 to 1741
by Giovanni Antonio Viscardi
and Johann Georg Ettenhofer
and was decorated with frescoes
by Cosmas Damian Asam.

The Stadtmuseum Fürstenfeld-
bruck is located in the spacious
rooms of the former monastery
brewery. In its three sections
the permanent collection of the
museum provides information
on the history of the former
Cistercian monastery of
Fürstenfeld, the daily life of
the burghers of Fürstenfeldbruck
around 1900 and the pre- and
early history of the county of
Fürstenfeldbruck.

Because of its varied exhibition
programme on art, cultural and
contemporary history as well as
the history of every day life,
the importance of this museum
has extended well beyond the
region.

A comprehensive pedagogical
programme offers opportunities
to delve further into the topics
of the individual exhibitions
and museum sections. In addition
 to guided tours and workshops,
the museum also offers children’s
 activity days and lectures.
