Freising
Freising, a 1300 year-old bishop’s
city, nestled on the top of hills,
is one of the historic centres of
ancient Bavaria. In 1890 Freising
burghers founded the Historical
Association and created a local
historical museum – the Stadt-
museum – which was opened in
2007. It is located in the centre of
the historical city in a large
Baroque building which formerly
housed the bishop’s college on
Marienplatz. In the permanent
exhibition you can experience
Freising and its history in four
clearly presented thematic areas:
topography and townscape,
bishop’s city and royal residence,
and Freising and its burghers
The route through the collection
of portraits – “Freising Looks at
You” – guides the visitor up to
the present history of the town.
